Missions Projects
Projects Overview
Ridge Haven needs you! Our missions projects provide a special opportunity for individuals and groups to perform services for both present needs and future generations. Projects vary in cost from $300 to $10,000. Past projects have included cabin, cafeteria, and lodge renovations, several new porches, new roofs, new steps, trail improvements, landscaping, trail blazing, trail blazing, and trail blazing. Did we mention trail blazing?
We invite you and/or your group to join the hundreds who have made Ridge Haven Missions Projects their own mission.
Living Arrangements and Meals
We are able to provide both lodging and meals for $18 a day per person. This is just enough for us to cover our actual costs. You can also prepare your own meals as most of our lodges are equipped with furnished kitchens for your convenience.
Construction Projects
Retaining Wall
Workers are needed to build a retaining wall on the path-side of the lake. The wall needs to be 3 feet high and approximately 200 feet wide. The Lake is a focal point of our summer camp This project will improve the view and long term cleanliness of the lake .We anticipate that this will be a 2 day project for 6-10 people and cost approximately $2-3000 for supplies.
Bridge
A permanent bridge is needed at Rebecca's Walk. This will provide a safe walkway across a 12 - 18 foot wide creek and make this a much safer and enjoyable walk for our hikers. We anticipate this will be a 2 day project for 5-8 people and cost approximately $500 for supplies.
Steps and Walkway at High Falls
Construction of a landing and stairs has been started at our High Falls. We are in need of workers to complete and potentially expand the project. This is a large project and could accommodate a bigger and more experienced team. We anticipate this will be a one week project for 8-10 people. Total cost for the project is estimated to be $2500.
Wooden Roofing
Workers are needed to improve our wilderness camp site by adding wooden roofs to our sleeping shelters. There are 5 sleeping shelters and supplies are estimated to be $300 for each one. Come do 1, 2 or all 5. We anticipate this will be a 4 day project for 5-8 people.
Landscaping and General Improvements
Landscaping
Teams are needed to clean up existing landscaped areas and mulch around much of the campus, including rope courses, climbing tower, playgrounds and dorms. Total cost about $150 a day. We anticipate this will be a 2 -4day project for 4-6 people.
Underground Gutters
Underground gutters need to be cleaned and possibly replaced. This is an important project to maintain our buildings and help us be good stewards of the facilities God has given us. We anticipate this will be a 3 day project for 6-10 people. Total cost $500.
Trail Improvements
Winter storms wreak havoc on our trails! Teams are needed to clean them and ready them for spring and summer season. We also need to repair and construct rest benches along the trails. Wood could be pre-cut here at Ridge Haven. This is an ongoing project. Total cost $300.
Firewood
With the increase in teams and individuals visiting Ridge Haven, we have a need for firewood to be cut and split. Our winter, spring and fall guests enjoy our fireplaces and it is a wonderful way we can serve them by having wood cut and ready for them to enjoy. This is also an ongoing project. Costs associated with this project will be negligible.
Developing New Trails
We are constantly striving to improve the wilderness hiking trail options for our guests and hope to add an even more strenuous course than those already cleared. We anticipate this will be a 5-10 day project for 6-20 people. Costs associated with this project will be negligible.
Volleyball Court Renovation
This would be a highly visible project. The current surface is abrasive and in need of replacement. Workers are needed to remove the old sand/gravel mix at the volleyball court. We would like to construct new borders and install a gravel based court with 18" of sand on the surface. We anticipate this will be a 3-4 day project for 6-8 people with approximate costs of $4,000.
Dusk to Dawn Photocell Light Sensor at Robeson
The porch lighting system at Robeson is similar to that of Averett. However, the porch lights at Averett have a photocell sensor which allows them to operate from dusk to dawn. This project would provide uniform lighting between the two buildings and help provide a safer campus environment. This would be an electrical project with a half day time frame and approximate cost of $100.
Upcoming Projects
Recreation Shelter Area Landscaping
The area around the recreation shelter needs sprucing up. With the heavy rain and snow we have received in the last year, there has been considerable soil erosion. Grading the area and laying sod will vastly improve the landscaping around the basketball court, volleyball court and playground.
